Redistricting for 2024-25 School Year

The Ascension Parish School Board voted to give current high school students who will be in tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grades when the new zones go into effect options to stay at their current schools. 

Here are the guiding principles for this decision:

Students who were enrolled in an Ascension Public Schools high school during the 2023-24 school year and are assigned to a new attendance zone for 2024-25 will have the option to remain at their existing/original school (EAHS, DTHS, SAHS) for the remainder of their time in high school if they meet the following conditions:

• Are enrolled at their original school (EAHS, DTHS, SAHS) on the first day of the second semester of the 2023-24 school year, did not withdraw at any time during the second semester, and remained enrolled through the final day of the second semester of the 2023-24 school year; AND
• Agree to provide their own transportation in order to remain at their original school that is now outside their designated attendance zone (APSB will not provide transportation to any student that attends a school outside their designated attendance zone); AND
• Notify, in writing, their intentions to remain at their original school by the designated deadline in the spring semester of the 2023-24 school year, as determined by the Ascension Parish School Board and posted on the district’s website, AscensionSchools.org.

Note: All APSB students registered in grades K-12 will be appropriately reassigned to the school that aligns with the newly adopted attendance zone lines after the 2023-24 school year with the exception of those who were enrolled in high school during the 2023-24 school year, requested to remain at their existing/original school based on the set conditions (listed above), and were approved by the district. 

Also Note: Once a student is approved by the district to remain at their existing/original school based on the set conditions (listed above) that approval is granted for the remainder of their time in high school as long as they are able to provide their own transportation.  

The Ascension Parish School Board is in the process of gathering community input about the proposed new attendance zones. The goal is for the Board to make a final decision this fall, specifically no later than December 2023.

The proposed (Hurricanes) PVHS Feeder System will have Galvez Primary and Sugar Mill Primary to feed into Galvez Middle; Oak Grove Primary and Prairieville Primary to feed into Prairieville Middle; and Galvez Middle and Prairieville Middle to feed into Prairieville High School.

The proposed (Gators) SAHS Feeder System will have Lakeside Primary and Lake Elementary (PreK-5) to feed into Lake Elementary (6-8); Sorrento Primary and St. Amant Primary to feed into St. Amant Middle; and Lake Elementary (6-8) and St. Amant Middle to feed into St. Amant High.

The proposed (Spartans) EAHS Feeder System will have Central Primary and Duplessis Primary to feed into Central Middle; G.W. Carver Primary, Gonzales Primary, and Pecan Grove Primary to feed into Gonzales Middle; and Central Middle and Gonzales Middle to feed into East Ascension High.

The proposed (Griffins) DTHS Feeder System will have Bluff Ridge Primary and Bullion Primary to feed into Bluff Middle; Dutchtown Primary and Spanish Lake Primary to feed into Dutchtown Middle; and Bluff Middle and Dutchtown Middle to feed into Dutchtown High.

The feeder system for (Tigers) Donaldsonville High School will remain the same with Donaldsonville Primary feeding into Lowery Elementary; Lowery Elementary feeding into Lowery Middle; and Lowery Middle feeding into Donaldsonville High.

The Ascension Parish School Board contracted with Geographic Planning & Demographic Svs. LLC, expert demographer Mike Hefner to develop proposed attendance zone options based on the feeder system model referenced above. This complicated process takes into account student demographics, including socioeconomics (SE), and projected population growth. Mr. Hefner worked with Ascension Public Schools on similar redistricting efforts when opening the following schools: Bullion Primary, Bluff Middle, Bluff Ridge Primary, and Sugar Mill Primary.

Plans are for Prairieville High School (PVHS) to open in 2024-25 as a member of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA). Pending approval by the LHSAA in June 2024, Prairieville High School will be placed in a Class and District to compete for postseason play.
