THIS FALL, ASCENSION PUBLIC SCHOOLS WILL OFFER THREE OPTIONS FOR STUDENT LEARNING.

TRADITIONAL LEARNING

  • Five days a week.
  • Classroom-based.
  • Attendance taken daily.
  • K-5th grade: daily in-person instruction on campus.
  • 6th-12th grade: Students divided into two groups and the groups will alternate attending class on campus. Group A attends one day and Group B attends the next day or in some rotating basis.
  • Students receive “live” instruction on days that the student is on campus. On days that the student is not on campus, the student will login to the class at the normal class time to receive “at home” instruction, virtually with their class.
  • This method may vary depending on guidelines from LDOE and LDH.
  • If already enrolled as a student in Ascension Public Schools, no need to register for this option.

HOME-BASED VIRTUAL PROGRAM (IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19)

  • Go to www.apsb.org to register or use this link: https://forms.apsb.org/player.htm?f=0AgAAgwC
  • Enrollment is currently open and will continue into the first couple of weeks of school. After that, you will need to check with your school for their enrollment dates.
  • Students participate “real time” 5 days a week. Students will receive a schedule and be assigned a teacher for their courses as normal.
  • Students login to their classes at the regularly scheduled class times and participate in the class virtually from home at “real time.” Attendance is taken for each class as normal.
  • Instruction is provided by a teacher at the student’s home-based school. Time with the teacher is during the school day.
  • Pacing and content mirrors traditional learning. All courses available in traditional learning are available in this program.
  • Assessments are as close to traditional learning as possible.
  • The option to return to participation in the traditional learning setting can be done at the end of each grading period.
  • Participation in extracurricular and after school activities are allowed. Co-curricular activity arrangements must be discussed with the principal and class teacher
  • This program will be reevaluated in December.
  • Work and progress are monitored by the regular classroom teacher.
  • Easy transition to traditional learning option as the student has been participating in regular classroom instruction.
  • Lack of progress/participation could result in the student being sent back to traditional learning.

BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAM (ONGOING SINCE 2013)

  • Go to apsb.org to register or use this link: https://forms.apsb.org/player.htm?f=0AgAAgwC
  • Enrollment is currently open and will continue into the first couple of weeks of school. After that, you will need to check with your school for their enrollment dates.
  • Internet access is required.
  • Devices are provided by APSB.
  • The student participates in a flexible, self-paced timeframe.
  • The option to change status of enrollment can be done at the end of each grading period.
  • Students are assigned mentors (teachers) that monitor student online progress and academic performance.
  • A BLP instructor is available at set hours/days to provide supplemental instruction and interventions at the APPLe campus.
  • Coursework is provided through an online program and supplemental work may be provided by an APPLe teacher.
  • Attendance is tracked regularly and is determined by the student’s percentage of hours/work completed weekly. Lack of progress results in the student being sent back to their home school.
  • Students complete quizzes within the online program and must report to the APPLe Campus to take tests.
  • Students in grades 6-12 take all benchmark exams at the APPLe campus.
  • Students are required to take all state standardized tests.
  • Parental involvement for monitoring and possible guidance will likely be needed.
