EXCELLENCE. ASCENDING TOGETHER
THE FOLLOWING ARE LEARNING OPTIONS SUPPORT AVAILABLE FOR OUR ENGLISH LEARNERS.
TRADITIONAL LEARNING
- Newcomers will be placed in a static group by grade level with English-speaking peers
- EL staff will provide support/supplemental instruction based on student proficiency levels from ELPT
- EL staff will participate to the greatest extent possible according to guidelines
- EL staff will participate in virtual PLC’s when applicable to monitor student progress
- EL staff will participate to the greatest extent possible according to guidelines.
- Newcomers and P1 students will be the priority since these students need the most support with language acquisition skills
- EL staff will check in P2 & P3 via Google Classroom using feedback from parents or content teachers. to determine what additional support, if any, is needed
- Newcomers in middle & high school, if available, can participate in language elective
- Assessments: Students participating in any program will be required to complete all assessments (EL benchmark, Content Benchmarks, ELPT, LEAP)
BLENDED LEARNING PROGRAM
- Program will be translated in student’s native language utilizing translate feature within the program
- An EL staff member will be assigned to students participating in BLP
- Staff member will check in with students twice a week to discuss progress
- Staff member will communicate student progress to parents
- Assessments: Students participating in any program will be required to complete all assessments (EL benchmark, Content Benchmarks, ELPT, LEAP)

IMPORTANT UPDATES FROM THE SUPERINTENDENT
Yesterday, Governor John Bel Edwards extended the statewide mask mandate until Oct. 27, 2021. The mask mandate includes K-12 schools and college campuses, per Proclamation 181 JBE 2021.
