School Operations for 2022-23
"READY TO ACHIEVE" GUIDELINES FOR ASCENSION PUBLIC SCHOOLS
CURRENT AS 08/03/22
Ascension Public Schools is operating under normal procedures for the 2022-23 school year. The following information is specific to the Louisiana Department of Education's "Ready to Achieve" initiative for safe and healthy schools.
ILLNESS PREVENTION
It is important that all individuals who attend school, who are employees in our school system, or who are visitors to our schools avoid being present among others when experiencing symptoms of any illness. Our effort to protect each other from illness by staying home when experiencing symptoms is essential to preventing the spread of illnesses in our schools and the workplace.
Students and employees will continue to have access to handwashing stations and hand sanitizer throughout the day. Students and employees will be encouraged to utilize hand sanitation resources when entering the school, exchanging classes, before and after eating, and other times throughout the day as would be appropriate. Hand hygiene is one of the most important habits to prevent the spread of illnesses and viruses.
At the district and school levels, we are reinforcing Universal Precautions, which is an annual training for all employees to prevent the spread of infections and illnesses in schools.
ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANING
Ascension Public Schools will continue its efforts toward daily cleaning and disinfecting. Heavy traffic areas including restrooms and other common areas will be cleaned regularly. Bottle filling stations are now available at select drinking fountains at all schools. Students and employees are encouraged to bring personal clear water bottles for refilling.
FACE COVERINGS ON SCHOOL PROPERTY (INDOORS OR OUTDOORS)
Face coverings for staff, students, and visitors are optional everywhere in Ascension Public Schools' buildings and property. Face coverings are allowed in schools and on school property at the discretion of the individual.
LEARNING OPTIONS
Ascension Public Schools continues to offer online learning through the Blended Learning Program (BLP.) This is a voluntary program that allows students to access their courses from anywhere there is internet access. Students may enroll by speaking to the counselor at their home-base school. For more information, visit APPLe Digital Academy's webpage.
VISITORS
As always, visitors are allowed at schools and are expected to follow proper campus procedures. Please check with your school for visitation options.
